When to Suspect Multiple Antibodies

Multiple antibodies increase the complexity of antibody workups. Multiple antibodies are commonly found in patients who are chronically transfused such as sickle cell patients. Multiple antibodies should be suspected if:
  • All panel cell reactions are positive with varying strengths and or phases or;
  • Some panel cells are positive at different strengths and or phases and some cells are negative
Finding a matching pattern on the panel will be difficult.
