MediaLab Program Director

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of continuing education courses for the major laboratory disciplines, including:
    • Blood Banking/Immunohematology
    • Clinical Chemistry/Urinalysis/Toxicology
    • Florida Required courses
    • Hematology
    • Histology
    • Immunology/Serology
    • OSHA compliance courses
    • Compliance (HIPPA, Medicare Compliance)
    • Laboratory Safety
    • Microbiology
    • Molecular Pathology
    • Phlebotomy
    • Quality Control and Laboratory Math
  • Collaborate with the CAP education department to identify competency assessment course topics. Includes overseeing the design, development, and implementation of the courses for laboratory modalities that include:
    • Transfusion medicine/blood bank
    • Chemistry
    • Hematology/coagulation
    • Immunology
    • Microbiology
    • Phlebotomy/specimen processing
    • Point of care
    • Safety
    • Urine/body fluids
    • Histology
    • Quality programs/management
  • Contribute to the development and testing of new products and improvements to existing products as necessary.
  • Assist with customer service issues/questions as necessary.
Essential Tasks
  • Research and identify CE course topics to ensure at least 10 hours of CE is added annually
  • Write continuing education (CE), compliance, and competency assessment courses
  • Identify and contact appropriate authors for CE and competency assessment courses
    • Develop and send contracts to authors
    • Ensure authors are paid upon completion of work
  • Mentor contracted authors throughout the writing process
    • Manage the writing projects to keep them on track and on time, periodically reviewing content and communicating with authors
  • Perform copy editing following requirements as determined for the type of course being developed
  • Add design elements to courses whenever possible that will enhance the learning experience, such as appropriate images, animations, or summary tables.
  • Identify and contact appropriate course reviewers
    • Ensure reviewers are paid upon completion of work
  • Monitor user feedback, evaluate material, and make changes to courses as required
  • Monitor and update MediaLab courses as needed:
    • Monitor and update compliance courses annually
    • Monitor and update Florida-specific courses biannually
    • Monitor and update Packaging and Shipping course biannually
    • Monitor and update remaining CE courses biannually
  • Submit new CE and compliance courses to ASCLS for P.A.C.E. approval
  • Submit current courses to ASCLS for P.A.C.E. reapproval when required
  • Annually, prepare and submit a list of courses to ASCLS (total of 12 CE credit hours) that will be offered free to ASCLS members
  • Prepare CAP competency assessment courses for re-release as CE ("Pro") courses
Education and Experience
  • MT/CLS with a broad knowledge of clinical laboratory services
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Writing experience and/or clinical laboratory educator
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Robust writing skills
  • Strong copy-editing skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Computer savvy and capable of working in various online applications
  • Utilizes web conferencing for online collaborative processes, including webinars, video/audio conferencing, and peer-level web meetings
  • Detail oriented
  • Willing to participate in occasional travel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and organized
