Instructional Methods

Any course of instruction is developed by determining the material to be learned, selecting appropriate instructional methods to achieve the learning goals and objectives, and developing ongoing and terminal evaluations.
Each course may be structured by incorporating either a mix of methods of instruction or a single method. The advantages and disadvantages of each method should be considered.
Methods of instruction can be divided into different categories. The embedded image represents a basic division into five types of instruction. These five types are:
  1. Direct instruction
  2. Indirect instruction
  3. Interactive instruction
  4. Experiential learning
  5. Independent study
