Pituitary Malignancies

Most tumors of the pituitary are benign adenomas.
True carcinomas of the pituitary are very rare and are difficult to differentiate from adenomas, as cancerous forms may also be functional in their ability to produce hormones. Pituitary carcinomas may spread to the brain, spinal cord, meninges, and the bone surrounding the pituitary.
