The overproduction of pituitary hormones leads to serious endocrine disorders and disturbances.
Some of the more common disorders of pituitary hormone hyperproduction are listed below:
- Acromegaly - caused by excess production of GH
- Cushing Syndrome - caused by excess production of ACTH
- Secondary Hyperthyroidism - high levels of TSH cause uncontrolled increases in the production of thyroid hormones
- Prolactinoma - uncontrolled production of PRL leads to decreased levels of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone
Benign tumors or hyperplasia of functional endocrine tissue are often the source of the hyperproduction of the pituitary hormones.
