Neurohypophysis

The posterior pituitary is referred to as the neurohypophysis. This lobe of the pituitary is not glandular in its design and does not produce hormones. The neurohypophysis contains projections of neurons that stem from the hypothalamus which serve as a storage center or depository for specific hormones produced by the hypothalamus.
