Corrective Action for Failed Competency Assessment

A competency assessment that fails to demonstrate satisfactory performance, requires corrective action. The failure must be documented, incorporating the steps required in the policy. A plan of corrective action must be structured to include retraining and reassessment of the employee's competency. All steps are documented, and documentation is retained.
At the time of failure to demonstrate satisfactory performance, the employee should be removed from testing until competency can be demonstrated.
Supervisory staff should discuss the process for remediation with the employee and initiate retraining.
  1. Retraining as per a pre-arranged schedule
  2. Re-assessment following scheduled retraining
  3. Determination of competency following completion of retraining
  4. Statement of competency by the supervisor and the employee
  5. Documentation of all remediation steps and results
