Mock Collections

In addition to the successful completion of this instruction and the exam that follows, training to qualify as a collector must include the flawless completion of five mock collections. These mock collections must include the following scenarios and must be performed in the presence of a qualified collector:
  1. Two uneventful collections.
  2. One collection in which the quantity of specimen is not sufficient.
  3. One collection in which the temperature of the specimen is out of range.
  4. One collection in which the donor refuses to sign either the donor certification on the Medical Review Officer's copy of the CCF or refuses to initial the security strips.
A printable checklist will be provided at the end of this course. The checklist can be used to document the completion of these collections.
The U.S. Department of Transportation provides this video to assist collectors with performing the necessary mock collections. Available at: DOT Mock Collection Video.  https://www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.dev/files/asset_videos/collection_video/OSTVideoPlayer3.htm Accessed February 8, 2016.
