Systematic Error

Systematic error causes inaccurate results that are consistently low or high. Factors that contribute to systematic error include:

  • Change in reagent lot
  • Change in calibration
  • Wrong calibrator values assigned
  • Improperly prepared or deteriorating reagents
  • Pipette maintenance error (not adjusted correctly or misaligned)
  • Deterioration of a photometric light source
