La Crosse Encephalitis Laboratory Diagnosis

Laboratory diagnosis of La Crosse encephalitis is similar to other arboviruses. Serum or CSF is tested by virus-specific IgM and confirmed by testing for neutralizing antibodies. (Panels may include both IgG and IgM antibody testing.) State public health laboratories can perform the testing, or the specimens can be sent to the CDC. Some large reference laboratories provide CSF antibody testing.
