The patient was a 61-year-old who had a sudden onset of left-side weakness and unsteadiness while walking. The laboratory reports were normal except for mild leukopenia (3.5 × 103/mcL) and thrombocytopenia (70 × 103/mcL). A stroke was ruled out, but an MRI demonstrated cerebral ischemia.
Dengue fever was diagnosed by RT-PCR. A capture ELISA was positive for the dengue II virus, and the titer increased fourfold three weeks later.
