High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) is considered the “gold standard” method for NOAC measurement. However, HPLC-MS is a time-consuming procedure requiring expensive equipment. This makes the technique impractical in a general clinical laboratory.
To meet the need for more rapid results, simpler assays with greater availability have been developed to measure new oral factor Xa inhibitors. These methods have a close correlation with HPLC-MS/MS.
