Final Thoughts

It has been suggested that Prion diseases should be reclassified under a new classification scheme. Prion diseases should encompass all of the conditions that are characterized by the occurrence of abnormal proteins—not just those limited to various Prion isoforms. Under this new classification Alzheimer's disease (AD), Huntington’s disease (HD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) should be considered as Prion diseases.
