Preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 infection typically involve one or more of the following:
Physical or social distancing. Physical distancing of at least 3 ft
Quarantine at home when sick.
Cover coughs and sneezes
Keep unwashed hands away from the face.
Handwashing with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand rub using at least 60% alcohol
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Use of face mask in public settings when physical distancing is difficult or when going into closed spaces.
Become vaccinated using an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine*.
*Note: In June 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended that fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. Fully vaccinated individuals currently can resume activities that they did before the pandemic.
As of July 27, 2021, based on a concern for increased circulation of the delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, the CDC altered its recommendation on masking and indicated that fully vaccinated people should wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission. Additional recommendations were made for indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools regardless of vaccination status.
Please be aware that these CDC recommendations for fully vaccinated people may change pending updates and analysis of COVID-19 infection and transmission data. For updated recommendations, individuals should consult the following
