The donor center should perform a physical assessment of the donor's health. The FDA has made recommendations for acceptable blood pressure ranges:
- Systolic: 90 to 180 mm Hg
- Diastolic: 50 to 100 mm Hg
Potential donors should have a body temperature of 99.5°F or less (37.5°C or less) in order to be eligible to donate.
The pulse requirement set by the FDA is between 50 and 100 beats per minute.
Measurement | Upper Limit | Lower Limit |
BP Systolic | 180 mm Hg | 90 mm Hg |
BP Diastolic | 100 mm Hg | 50 mm Hg |
Temperature | 99.5°F or 37.5°C | |
Pulse | 100 bpm | 50 bpm |
Donors who do not meet these conditions may still be eligible to donate if evaluated by a physician.
