Placenta

Placental specimens submitted to histology may include:
  1. Membrane roll: Place on edge perpendicularly to the block face to show membrane layers.
  2. Placental disc sections: Embed these flat and centrally located in the block face.
  3. Umbilical cord segments: Embed these as other tubes, on end to show the lumen (vessel) openings in cross-section.
