Epidemiology

According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation as the average age of the world's population increases, the incidence and prevalence of osteoporosis will increase further. Surveys based on data from developed countries show that the number of individuals aged 45 years and older has increased significantly since 1960. This increase is true not only for industrialized countries but also for developing countries. The world population of women older than 45 is also expected to rise proportionately. Osteoporosis is estimated to affect 200 million women worldwide - approximately one-tenth of women aged 60, one-fifth of women aged 70, two-fifths of women aged 80, and two-thirds of women aged 90.
