Flow Cytometry

Flow cytometry methods can be used to quantitate the number of fetal D+ red cells present in the maternal circulation (also the amount of HbF).
Flow cytometry is considered more accurate and reliable than the Kleihauer test. However, not all hospitals have the technical skills or equipment for flow cytometry. It is usually available only in facilities that already use flow cytometry for other purposes.
