Classification Scenario 2

A blood specimen is collected from a patient suspected of having Hepatitis B. The specimen will be taken to the testing laboratory by the laboratory's courier service using an exclusive use motor vehicle. What classification should be used for appropriate packaging and labeling?
In this situation, the same specimen type would not be subject to the requirements as Division 6.2 material as it is being transported by a private carrier in a motor vehicle used exclusively for these materials; it meets exception §173.134(b)(11). However, it does need to be marked and packaged as a biohazard according to OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens requirements.
