Vasopressin is known by several names, including antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and arginine vasopressin (AVP).
- Vasopressin increases fluid volume of blood, which in turn raises the blood pressure
- Diabetes insipidus is caused by insufficient production of vasopressin, often due to brain trauma with damage to hypothalamus
- Diabetes insipidus is characterized by the production of huge volumes of dilute urine and extreme thirst.
