Additional Testing

Other tests that might be ordered by the medical director would be related to the symptoms reported. Tests that are commonly ordered in the case of possible AHTR include:
  • Bilirubin
  • Haptoglobin
  • Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)
When any testing indicates that the patient may be experiencing an AHTR, the patient's physician and the transfusion medical director must be notified immediately.
When all testing is complete, the medical director reviews all of the results and makes a final conclusion in a written report.
