Assembly of the T4 Molecule

Thyroxine (T4) is constructed by two diiodotyrosine (DIT) molecules through the action of the enzyme thyroperoxidase (TPO).
T4 is the primary thyroid hormone assembled within the confines of the thyroid gland. The majority of T4 is further processed to triiodothyronine (T3), which will be discussed on the next page.
