Summary of IOM Report

The Institutes of Medicine report, using "evidence-based medicine" agreed with the current RDA and also warned about the risk of high doses of Vitamin D supplementation.

Many experts feel that the IOM was too conservative. Most consider the RDA to be too low, but the risk of adverse events of very high doses should be taken seriously. Therefore, it is still the consensus that 1000-2000 IU of vitamin D3per day is safe and effective.
