DNA Primers

The DNA sequences that flank either side of the genomic DNA of interest must be known for PCR to be successful. Synthesized oligodeoxynucleotides, known as primers, are short DNA fragments that range in size from 20 to 30 base pairs. The primers are complementary to the sequences flanking either side of the desired DNA region. Primers can either be purchased or produced in the laboratory.
