Continuing Education Requirements for Renewal

All licensed clinical laboratory personnel must earn at least 24 hours of continuing education credits every two years. These continuing education hours must be completed during the licensure cycle and be submitted by the August 31 deadline for renewal.
Continuing education requirements include:
  • At least one hour for each specialty for which you are licensed
  • A two-hour course on medical errors
  • A one-hour course on laws and rules of the Florida Board (this course)
  • A one-hour course on HIV/AIDS
  • A one-hour course in administration and supervision (directors and supervisors only)
Courses must have the category listed. Some courses may be described as "general" because of their broad overview or nature, but they cannot be substituted for a specific category.
If you have just received your license, you do not need to complete the continuing education requirement during the first two-year period of your license, except for courses that may be required by Florida statute (currently medical errors and HIV/AIDS). Licensees adding a category during the biennium are not required to obtain one contact hour in that category.
