Core Elements

CMS has defined the core elements of emergency preparedness:
  • Perform an all-hazards risk assessment.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the facility based on the risk identified.
  • Develop and implement an emergency communications plan.
  • Develop and implement a training and testing program.
  • Emergency fuel and generator testing.
CMS has not defined specific formats for documenting the plan. That is up to the facility.
