Treatment - Group 3—Monomethylhydrazine (Gyromitrin)

Fortunately, Group 3 poisonings account for only 1% of all mushroom poisonings in the United States. The percentages are higher in European countries. Benzodiazepines or pyridoxine may be administered IV to overcome seizures. Since hydrazine inhibits the transformation of folic acid, patients with severe Group 3 toxicity should be given folic acid as an adjunctive therapy. Patients should be closely monitored for further complications such as potential destruction of skeletal muscle, methemoglobinemia, and hemolysis.
