Why do I need laboratory continuing education?

Laboratory continuing education plays a vital role in keeping laboratory personnel, including medical technologists and medical laboratory technicians, up-to-date on the ever-changing world of clinical laboratory science. Automation, new techniques, and cutting-edge research are changing the way that clinical laboratory science is practiced in laboratories and hospitals. Because of this constant change, taking courses to stay aware of new developments is vital.

Recognizing the importance of laboratory continuing education, many professional organizations, states, and employers are requiring yearly continuing education for laboratory personnel. You may need laboratory continuing education to apply for or renew your medical technologist's license in one of the state's that requires licensure. Or, you may need laboratory continuing education to meet requirements for ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or certification maintenance.
