The pituitary provides signals to control the production of milk in breastfeeding mothers.

Mammotroph cells secrete the hormone Prolactin (PRL), which provides the signal for mammary gland development, maturity, and function. In concert with oxytocin released from the neurohypophysis in response to stimuli provided by the infant , the process of lactation is under the regulation of the pituitary
