Fat Droplets and RBCs

Fat droplets can be mistaken for RBCs. Sudan III will selectively stain the neutral fats bright red-orange, as indicated by the arrows in the top image.
Cholesterol can be identified by Maltese cross formation under polarized light, as seen in the bottom image.
