Overview of the Anatomy of the Thyroid Gland

Anatomically, humans have a single thyroid gland which is rich in hormone-producing endocrine tissues. The primary function of the thyroid is to regulate the metabolic rate of the body. The thyroid is both a production center and a reservoir for the hormones it produces.
