A Nurse or Technologist as a Transfusion Safety Officer

While not all facilities will have the resources for this position, a Transfusion Safety Officer is a important asset to a Patient Blood Management Program and has many roles in support of the program. This full or part-time individual will:
1) work with preoperative clinics to ensure patients are screened for anemia and medications that could affect bleeding,
2)follow-up on patient blood management failures to identify the cause and recommend preventative action,
3) act as a member of the transfusion committee, and
4) design and implement training for transfusion therapy.
