40 year-old farmer who worked with livestock in Chandrapur, India
Had never left home
Presented with fever and sensory disorders
Blood smear demonstrated trypanosomes but the parasites disappeared after day 2 only to reappear on day 10
Patient had fever spikes 7-10 days apart for 5 months
No central nervous system involvement found
Neither
T. brucei or T. cruzi
is found in India and there are no other trypanosomes seen in humans
