Bone Marrow Core Imprints (Touch Preparation)

Imprint smears assist the pathologist in assessing cellular morphology especially when an aspirate cannot be obtained in patients that have fibrosis. Differential counts can be performed on imprint smears. Imprint smears also demonstrate usual cell distribution. On dry tap specimens, when an aspirate is not able to be collected, review of the imprint allows for correlation of fibrosis or hypercellularity. Immediate screening of imprint slides may accelerate diagnosis of a neoplasm.
