The Cellular Components of Blood

Peripheral blood is composed of an isotonic fluid, called plasma, in which various blood cells are suspended. The three major categories of peripheral blood cells are:
  • Erythrocytes (red blood cells)
  • Leukocytes (white blood cells)
  • Thrombocytes (platelets)
