Masson's Trichrome Staining - Diagnostic Applications

Masson's is used to differentiate between collagen and smooth muscle in tumors and identify an increase in collagen in diseases such as cirrhosis. This is a routine stain for liver and kidney biopsies.
Trichrome stains are used to distinguish collagen from muscle and aid in the diagnosis of fibrotic changes, neuromuscular diseases, and tumors of muscle origin.
