Haemophilus ducreyi

  • Gram negative bacterium in the Haemophilus family (includes Haemophilus influenzae)
  • Similar to other Haemophilus species: requires complex nutrients not found in sheep blood agar
  • It grows in presence of hemin (X factor) but not NAD (V factor)
  • H. ducreyi infections are uncommon in the U.S. but small outbreaks have occurred
