Diagnosis of LGV

  • No commercially available FDA-approved test
  • Diagnosis is primarily based on clinical findings
  • Direct identification of the bacteria from a lesion or site of the infection could be tested for chlamydia but a positive result would not tell if it is LGV
  • Chlamydia tests are not FDA-approved for rectal specimens in cases of proctitis
  • Collect a specimen and send the sample to the state health department for referral to CDC
