Progressive or Regressive Hematoxylin Staining

Most hematoxylin stains can be used as either progressive or regressive stains. Listed below are some common hematoxylin stains and their typical protocol:

Progressive:

  • Mayer's
  • Gill's

Regressive:

  • Harris's
  • Delafield's
  • Ehrilich's
