Introduction to Real-Time PCR

Real-time PCR allows for quantification of the genetic material that is present in the sample. In real-time PCR, amplicons are measured at each cycle and data is collected continuously during the nucleic acid amplification process rather than only at the completion of the process. Fluorescent dyes or probes are added before the amplification process and instrumentation is employed to count the number of copies obtained during each cycle.
