Requirements for Retraining

Recertification

The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires certified urine drug collectors to be recertified every five years. Refresher training includes both the instruction, as provided in this course, and observation by a qualified collector of five mock collections, as discussed on the previous page.

Error Correction Training

If a collector makes a mistake in the collection process that causes a test to be cancelled, the collector must then undergo retraining within 30 days of the date that the notification of error was received. The type of error that causes a test to be cancelled is discussed in the course in the section "Fatal flaws and correctable flaws." If a fatal flaw occurs or a correctable flaw is not corrected, this would indicate the need for retraining, to include both instruction and observation of five mock collections.
