Timely: Reduce Waits and Harmful Delays, continued

There is extraordinary value in measuring turnaround times (TAT). However, it is important to be selective with respect to which tests to monitor. Consider monitoring TAT for tests performed for patients in surgery, intensive care units, emergency departments, and oncology treatment programs. These areas customarily use laboratory test results immediately upon receipt. Thus, outliers for their respective TATs represent circumstances in which patient safety may be compromised.
