Bluing Solutions

Bluing reagents are alkaline solutions that are used to change the hematoxylin staining from red to the traditional blue color we expect. These slightly basic solutions chemically alter the dye to produce this color change. Bluing reagents include Scott's tap water substitute and ammonia water. Bluing, as a procedural step, always follows differentiation.
