Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses, which makes them relatively easy to kill compared to some other pathogens.
SARS-CoV-2 is susceptible to many common laboratory and household EPA-registered disinfectants. To properly decontaminate against SARS-CoV-2 and prevent the spread of infection, people should clean surfaces routinely, clean high-touch surfaces more frequently, wear necessary PPE, and always follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions for use.
SARS-CoV-2 can be inactivated with contact by common laboratory disinfection measures such as:
- Diluted bleach, with bleach containing 5.25-8.25% sodium hypochlorite
- 70% ethanol
- Paraformaldehyde
- Glutaraldehyde
