Toxic Granulation and Vacuolation

Vacuoles are frequently seen in conditions such as infection or burns when toxic granulation is also present. The cell in this image exhibits toxic vacuolation as well as toxic granulation.

Note: Toxic vacuolation and toxic granulation are classified as reactive and not pathologic since the body is responding normally in an effort to rid itself of infection caused by bacteria.
