Clinical Signs and Symptoms

Clinical signs and symptoms associated with DIC include but are not limited to:
  • Extensive ecchymosis
  • Petechiae
  • Hemorrhage
  • Headaches, speech changes, paralysis, dizziness, and trouble speaking and understanding (if blood clots form in the vessels of the brain)
  • Pain, redness, warmth, and swelling in the lower leg (if blood clots form in the deep veins of the leg)
  • Chest pain and shortness of breath (if blood clots form in the vessels of the lungs or heart)
  • Heart attack and/or lung and kidney complications (if blood clots lodge in the heart, lungs, or kidneys)
  • Ultimately, organ failure can occur
