An outpatient returned to the laboratory one hour following a phlebotomy procedure complaining of a large bruise that had formed at the site of the venipuncture, and blood dripping from under the bandage. The phlebotomist rebandaged the arm and advised the patient to contact their personal physician if they experienced any additional problems.
