Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Mechanism:
  • Autoimmune - Antibody (Ab) to Thyroperoxidase (TPOAb) or Thyroglobulin (TgAb)
  • Highest TPOAb levels found in Hashimoto's thyroiditis
  • Leads to HYPOthyroidism
Symptoms:
  • Weight gain/inability to lose weight
  • Depression, especially postpartum
Prevalence:
  • Up to 2% of the general population in the United States
  • Female-to-male ratio of 12:1
