Intent of This Program

This program is intended to provide guidance and training to those individuals who will be conducting Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated urine specimen collections and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) collections. To be permitted to act as a collector, you must be knowledgeable about 49 CFR Part 40, the current “DOT Urine Specimen Collection Procedures Guidelines,” and DOT agency regulations applicable to the employers for whom you perform collections, and you must keep current on any changes to these materials, which is available at: https://www.transportation.gov/odapc. Accessed February 4, 2016.
This training program contains the necessary information that is specified in 49 CFR Part 40. However, it does not represent final authority. Every effort has been taken to keep this course up-to-date with current regulations, which at the time of this course edition are DOT Urine Specimen Collection Guidelines, revised July 3, 2014. If anything in this program conflicts with the Urine Specimen Collection Guidelines, U.S. Dept. of Transportation, Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, that reference prevails and must be followed.
