Diagnosis of Malaria - Rapid Diagnostic Tests

Rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) for the detection of malaria can give results within 15 to 20 minutes and can be performed without electricity or a laboratory. RDTs provide a qualitative result, but cannot provide quantitative information regarding parasite density.
RDTs are antigen-based tests that can detect histidine-rich protein 2 (HRP2), Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH), and aldolase.
